Part-Time Bilingual Communications Specialist

Shannon Strategies is a woman- and Black-owned communications firm that specializes in campaigns for the greater good. Position Summary


We are looking for a savvy communications specialist to join a growing team and help expand operations. In this role, the communications specialist will work closely with the director in developing, implementing and managing strategic communication projects to support a variety of client needs. The ideal candidate has experience working on political and advocacy campaigns, and has a pulse on Virginia politics. 


Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop strategic communications plans to advance the organizational goals of clients 
  • Write, copyedit and publish content across platforms to reach the right audiences 
  • Draft press releases, media statements and op-eds to create media opportunities
  • Create and translate content for English and Spanish-speaking audiences
  • Employ best practices for optimal engagement and response
  • Draft speeches and messaging for executives and board members
  • Analyze metrics related to communications activities to measure progress


Qualifications


Our next communications specialist is a confident and independent thinker who is able think on their feet, solve problems and create content on the fly. You are able to respond to breaking news and pitch a story when relevant. Most importantly, you want to fight for justice and work on causes that uplifts marginalized communities.


Storytelling is at the heart of what we do, so we need a strong writer who has experience creating the right content and messaging. You also have experience having the final say when copyediting content. Our clients rely on us to publish content with as few mistakes as possible.


We work with clients in different industries, so you must have experience meeting deadlines and managing multiple projects. Specifically, we are looking for the following qualifications:


  • Committed to our mission of social, economic, racial and environmental justice.
  • 5+ years creating high-quality content and brand messaging for organizations in English and Spanish
  • Demonstrated ability to land headlines and generate press; media monitoring and reporting is a plus
  • Strong writing and editing skills; including AP style
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with a wide range of audiences
  • Experience working on political or advocacy campaigns
  • Fluency in English and Spanish languages is required

Location

This is a remote position.


Compensation

This is a part-time position with pay at $35/hour based on experience. Hours range from 15-20 hours per week, depending on need, with the possibility of becoming full-time.

Benefits include paid leave, summer hours, professional development and internet assistance.
