Dejah’s Takes: SuperBowl Commercials

If you're like me, I was one of the 100+ million people watching this year's Super Bowl strictly for the halftime show and commercials. According to the Wall Street Journal, the average cost for a 30 second slot for this year’s SuperBowl averaged about $7 million. With that kind of budget, and the creative influence from content creators, here are my three favorite commercials from SuperBowl 24.

“Hello Down There”

Squarespace Inc.

I particularly enjoy the constant exaggeration that our current generation is so consumed by social media that we don’t notice the chaos going on around us.

The thing is, yes, we are consumed! We have access to so much information from all over the world, in a matter of seconds. It almost seems irresponsible to solely rely on what’s directly in front of us. Social media serves as our space to catch the latest news, and share additional information, pushing us down plenty of rabbit holes. So it’s not that we don’t notice the aliens, we’re just waiting for the official rollout!

“Javier in Frame”

Google Pixel SB

Now when we say ‘diversity and inclusion,’ this is what we mean!

In a world where everything is so visual, hence the maxed out budgets on SuperBowl Ads every year, it’s easy to drop the ball on opportunities to widen our interpretation of inclusivity. The first person point of view in Google’s ad, gave viewers only a preview of experiencing life with a visual impairment, ultimately leaving us to sit with how much of a privilege it is to even just experience good marketing like that.

“Can’t Be Broken”

Beyoncè + Verizon

…..It’s Beyoncè. That’s it, that’s all.
